国际经济一体化组织为各成员国提供的第二个方面的效应是竞争效应。在一国的情况下，国内的主要工业部门，如高科技部门、重化工业部门等都会形成某种程度的垄断，这种垄断在一定程度上不利于国内竞争局面的形成，而且这些部门在保持长期稳定的情况下，缺乏竞争压力，进而缺乏技术进步的动力。组建经济一体化组织之后，各国的垄断企业在一个较大的市场中变成了竞争企业。为了企业自身的生存，它必须改进技术，扩大生产规模，力争实现在共同体市场范围内的规模经济，占领整个市场。因此，经济一体化组织为企业尖的竞争注入了动力，客观上有利于单个企业生产规模的扩大和技术的进步。
