 (本生)往昔有王名布杀陀王,王顶上忽生疱,自疱生一子。后长大为金轮王,称顶生王。顶生金轮王既征服四天下,遂上忉利天欲害帝释而己代之,不成还下地,困病而死。顶生王者,今之释迦佛是也。俱舍光记八曰:“曼驮多,是王名。唐云我养,是从布杀王顶疱而生,颜貌端正,王抱入宫告谁能养?诸宫各言我养也。故以标名。旧云顶生王,此义翻也。然非正目。此王长大为金轮王。”顶生王故事经,文陀竭王经,顶生王因缘经,贤愚经顶生王品,涅槃经十二说顶生王欲害帝释反败死之因缘。仁王经下说此时帝释设百座仁王会退顶生王军之事。
