物种特征:描述：中等体型（23厘米）的黑白色啄木鸟。头顶前部黄色（雌鸟白色），仅具三趾。体羽无红色，上背及背部中央部位白色。腰黑。亚种funebris腰褐色，背部白色仅于上背，下体褐色较浓。 虹膜－褐色；嘴－黑色；脚－灰色。 叫声：轻柔的kik声。有力的錾木声在1.3秒后突然加速，类似黑啄木鸟。 分布范围：全北界。 分布状况：地方性常见。指名亚种为中国东北的留鸟；亚种tianschanicus于新疆西部及西北部；funebris于西藏东南部及云南西北部至四川、青海东北部及甘肃。栖于喜马拉雅山脉海拔2000~4300米的针叶林及混交林，以及北方低地。 习性：喜老云杉树及亚高山桦树林。环树干錾圈以取食树液。
