乳用山羊的代表型品种。曾对世界乳用山羊的改良作出贡献，许多有名的乳用山羊都与本品种有关。原产瑞士萨能河谷,历史悠久。现广布世界各地,尤适于温带和热带的湿润气候。近半个世纪来在亚洲和非洲有很大发展。体型具乳用家畜的典型特征。公母羊?薪牵糠指鎏寰毕掠幸欢匀獯埂９蚓贝侄?,母羊颈扁而长,胸宽而深,背腰平直,尻部宽长,乳房大而发育良好,四肢长。被毛白色,毛尖偶有土黄色；随年龄的增长,鼻端和乳房常出现深色斑点。成年公羊体重75～100千克,母羊50～65千克。一般泌乳期8～10个月,产乳600～1200千克,含脂率3.8～4.0％。奥地利的一头羊产乳3080千克创世界纪录。性成熟早，秋季发情，12月龄开始配种，产羔率160～200％。缺点是皮肤偞味较浓，使乳的气味也受影响；被毛稀疏，皮肤薄，不适应于严寒地区。
