彭蠡泽,即彭蠡湖,为鄱阳湖古称。鄱阳湖在古代有过彭蠡湖、彭蠡泽、彭泽、彭湖、扬澜、宫亭湖等多种称谓。
鄱阳湖的主要古名
一为彭蠡湖,彭蠡,是很古的泽薮名,《汉书·地理志》“豫章郡彭泽”条载:“彭蠡泽在西”。还有另一种说法:“彭者大也,蠡者,瓠瓢也。”形容鄱阳湖如大瓢一样;
二为“宫亭湖”,原来专指星子县东南鄱阳湖的一部分,因湖旁有宫亭庙而得名,后来逐泛指鄱阳湖的全部;
