大荆镇距市区47公里。总面积57.8平方公里，总人口58983人。大荆镇是国家级风景区雁荡山的东大门，境内有迎客僧、东石梁洞及蔗湖村的明代攀龙牌坊、泗洲堂村的李孝光墓等名胜古迹。雁荡山第一大潭——石门潭，美丽的蒲溪，养育了淳朴的大荆人，大荆人以特有的热情迎接八方来客。
大荆镇地势西北高，东南低，耕地18984亩，以种植水稻、番薯为主，近年发展柑桔、梨、黄桃、枇杷、杨梅、葡萄、茶叶等经济林；浅海滩涂8700亩，是蛏、花蛤、牡蛎、扁蛏的繁殖基地，盛产紫菜、海带、田蟹、咸淡水鱼等。农历每月的三、六、九为传统集市，且有一年一度的五月十三大会市。一九九八年全镇工农业产值达到39913万元，人均收入4306元，是温州市的小康乡镇。
