描述BeaumontiaWall.清明花属，夹竹桃科，15种，分布于亚洲热带地区，我国有5种，产南部和西南部，其中断肠花B.brevitulaOliv.的叶及乳汁有毒，误食能致命。藤本，有乳状液汁；叶对生，叶腋内有腺体；花极大，排成顶生或腋生的聚伞花序，很少为圆锥花序或伞房花序，有叶状而大的苞片承托着；花萼5深裂，裂片叶状，里面基部有腺体；花冠钟状，稀辐状，喉部无鳞片；花盘由5个肉质腺体组成，腺体与花萼裂片互生；雌蕊由2个合生心皮所组成；子房上位，有胚珠多颗；果为2个长柱形、木质的蓇葖。
