| 步甲 Carabidae；carabid beetles 鞘翅目肉食亚目步甲科的通称。世界已知约2.5 万种，中国约800种以上。 成虫体长1～60 毫米，一般中等大小，色泽幽暗，多为黑色、褐色，常带金属光泽，少数色鲜艳，有黄色花斑；体表光洁或被疏毛，有不同形状的微细刻纹。 成虫不善飞翔，地栖性，多在地表活动，行动敏捷，或在土中挖掘隧道，喜潮湿土壤或靠近水源的地方。白天一般隐藏于木下、落叶层、树皮下、苔藓下或洞穴中；有趋光性和假死现象。在热带和亚热带地区，于植株上活动的种类较多。成虫、幼虫多以蚯蚓、钉螺、蜘蛛等小昆虫以及软体动物为食，有些种类只取食动物的排泄物和腐殖质。生活史比较长，一般1～2 年完成1代，以成虫或幼虫过冬。卵一般单产在土中。幼虫有3龄，老熟幼虫在土室中化蛹。 步甲科种的分布极广，各类群间的分化比较明显，是研究动物地理的理想对象。此外，步甲大多为捕食性，在自然界生物平衡及消灭害虫方面起着一定作用。中国的金星步甲大量捕食鳞翅目幼虫，是粘虫等害虫的重要天敌。但另一方面，步甲也有可能成为危险的害虫，例如，在饲养柞蚕的地区，它们大量捕食柞蚕幼虫和蛹。 |
