The heat pulse technique was applied to study the variation of the stem sap flow of individual plant of Populus euphratica in different direction and depth of trunk in the Ejina oasis in the lower reaches of Heihe River.

According to different functions of xylem,phloem and bark,the diameter may swell and shrink at different rates,xylem diameter changes were directly linked with transpiration(sap flow in xylem);on the other hand,phleom and bark diameter changes may be not only related with sap flow but also with wate.
