形态特征:
落叶乔木,株高约8—12米。叶大,偶数羽状复叶,长30-50厘米,小叶4—8对,长卵形或长椭圆形。长6—12厘米,宽3.5—7厘米,先端渐尖而钝,基部短尖,全缘,两面均被柔毛。总状花序下垂,长达40厘米以上。花冠黄色,鲜艳。荚果筒形长条状,果熟时呈黑褐色,内具粘性,有异味,长30—60厘米,有槽纹。花期6—7月。初夏满树金黄色花,鲜叶开放,荚果柱形如腊肠,秋季成熟。

分布与习性:
腊肠树原产印度、缅甸、斯里兰卡。为喜温树种,有霜冻害地区不能生长,通常在我国华南一带生长良好。性喜光,也能耐一定蔽荫,喜湿润肥沃的中性冲积土,以砂质壤土最佳,排水、日照需良好,生育适温23—32℃,能耐最低温度为-2—-3℃。在干燥瘠薄壤土上也能生长,病虫害少。

繁殖与栽培:
腊肠树用种子繁殖。种子千粒重120克。种子成熟时,采回捣烂果皮取出种子,播前用开水浸3—5小时,取出后条播或点播。在苗期及时除草,这是保苗率高低的关键。苗高20厘米行第一次间苗,30—40厘米行二次间苗。每年松土2—3次。春至秋季每两个月施肥1次。花期过后应修剪整枝1次。

应用:
树冠美观,花串下垂,鲜黄耀目,,可作为行道树或庭景树。
