海南鳽，中等体型（58厘米），上体、顶冠、头侧斑纹、冠羽及颈侧线条深褐色。胸具矛尖状皮黄色长羽，羽缘深色；上颈侧橙褐色。翼覆羽具白色点斑，翼灰。成年雄鸟具粗大的白色过眼纹，颈白，胸侧黑色，翼上具棕色肩斑。 虹膜－黄色；嘴－偏黄，嘴端深色；脚－黄绿色。 叫声：尚无记录。
分布范围：中国南方（越南东京的东部有一记录）。
分布状况：列全球性极危物种（Collar et al., 1994）。过去为留鸟，见于安徽、浙江、福建、广西及海南岛。20世纪60年代在海南有两次记录，1990～1992年间在广西3个地点出现，最近在南宁附近发现一小的繁殖群。1998年在广东鸟市有一只；新近报道在车八岭有少量繁殖个体。
习性：栖于林中小溪旁小沼泽地的稠密低矮草丛。被赶时飞至林上层。
