由真菌、线虫、细菌引起的植物病害。被害植株根部腐烂甚至坏死,病株枯死。真菌如腐霉(Pythium)、疫霉(Phytophthora)、 丝核菌(Rhizoctonia)、镰刀菌(Fusarium) 、核盘菌(Sclerotinia)等为主要病原物。致病线虫主要是短体线虫属(Pratylenchus)。专致根腐病的细菌极少。主要的根腐病有小麦全蚀病,甜菜根腐病、菜豆根腐病、细辛根腐病等。病因复杂,常由 2~3种病菌或2种不同类别的病原物共同引起。环境条件适宜时,病株还易被一些腐生性强的病原物再侵入,加速根部腐烂,造成复合症状。病菌主要在土壤内或遗留在土壤内的病残组织上越冬,热带、亚热带地区的根腐病菌在土壤中可终年以菌索不断蔓延为害。根腐病是土传病害,主要通过土壤内水分、地下昆虫和线虫传播。可采取轮作、抗病育种、加强田间管理、果园内挖沟切断菌源和土壤消毒等措施,以进行综合防治。严重病区实行植物检疫。
