千岛洪湖湖区全长26公里，在邻水县九龙镇、黎家乡、长滩乡境内约15公里，面积2.5万亩，总蓄水量3.68亿立方米。
湖中岛屿星罗棋布，港叉百余，构成扑朔迷离的湖网。渔舟穿梭，白帆点点，一派浓郁的水乡泽国景象。湖中水产资源丰富，是四川著名的水产基地。湖中水鸟有白鹤、大雁、苍鹜、翠鸟等十余种。左岸石崖上，有建文皇帝云游过的“无粮寺”。
大洪河旧称东河，因1958年国家在长寿境内修建大洪河水电站而更名。困拦河畜水，积水倒灌数十公里，淹没沿岸良田沃土25000余亩。形成今天的大面积积水网湖面，人们称之为大洪湖。湖区河叉纵横，岛屿
