大老岭在西陵峡北岸的丛山深处，距宜昌城大约100公里，是一个风景绮丽，环境清幽的旅游避暑胜地。大老岭跨宜昌、秭归、兴山三县，总面积64平方公里，平均海拔约1300米。
景点概况
最高峰天柱峰海拔2005米，因直立如柱而得名。大老岭群峰常年云雾缭绕，变幻万千。峭壁深壑，清溪漱瀑，怪石奇树，随处可见。其天然植被保存完好，林木葱郁，有“天然森林公园”之美称。其山野之趣，不可多得。其气候湿润凉爽，年平均气温12-15℃，夏季平均气温22℃，为避暑消夏的好去处。森林覆盖率达89%；种子植物达121科，824种；药用植物达200余种；珍稀植物和珍稀动物多达60余种。大老岭有国家森林公园的称誉。
