鲍 abalone 软体动物门腹足纲鲍科动物的总称 。 全世界有近百种,均属海生。主要分布在北美太平洋沿岸、日本和澳大利亚沿海,南非大西洋和印度洋沿岸。有红鲍、黑唇鲍、大鲍等种。中国辽宁 、山东、福建 、广东和台湾省沿海分布的有平鲍、杂色鲍、耳鲍、羊鲍、多度鲍、格鲍等。鲍的足部相当发达,肉质细嫩,味鲜美,被誉为海味之冠。鲍肉还可制罐头或鲍干。鲍壳又称石决明,有平肝明目功效。鲍壳珍珠层厚,色泽艳丽,是贝雕工艺的原料。还可培育鲍珠。鲍外形近似卵圆形或耳状,背腹扁。壳的左侧前面有数个小孔,是呼吸和泄殖的孔道。壳面紫褐色或绿褐色。壳的内面银白色,有彩虹般珍珠光泽。内脏囊在软体背部,环绕右侧壳肌后缘的消化腺、生殖腺、嗉囊和胃等部分。鲍栖息在水清流畅、盐度较高而稳定、藻类生长繁茂、岩石缝隙较多的沿岸区。大多数分布在低潮带至潮下带 20~30 米深处。鲍以藻类为主食。鲍雌雄异体,体外受精, 性腺每年成熟1次,一般春夏季产卵,产卵高峰较集中。鲍生长缓慢,人工养成周期长、成本高,一般多采取人工育苗、海区放流和封岛育鲍的繁殖方法。
