| 纸草学 papyrology 研究古代埃及和东部地中海地区用纸草书卷保存的古代文献的学科。古文字学的分支。纸草文献最早发现于1752年。19世纪以来，发现日多，纸草学随之产生。它在古埃及、古希腊罗马的历史研究中占有重要地位。纸草是用尼罗河下游一种叫作纸莎草植物的茎切片压平制成，从埃及古王国后期开始作为书写材料流行，到新王国时期成为主要书写材料。纸草文献多用古埃及文字的世俗体；希腊、罗马统治埃及时，则用希腊、拉丁和科普特文字（埃及科普特人的文字），此时纸草传入西亚、希腊等地，使用更为普遍。已发现的纸草文献主要是公元前4～公元6世纪的物品，也有一些埃及中王国、新王国时期的珍贵史料。20世纪50年代在巴勒斯坦死海地区发现死海文书，其中的纸草书，是纸草文献遗物中最有名的。 |
