The results showed pericarp thickness of grain presented a curvilinear movement in the growing process of sweet maize,namely,with the growth of grains,pericarp was getting thicker after pollination and reached the max value in the back of milking stage(super sweet maize) or in the wax stage(common sweet maize and common maize).

the result showed that pericarp thickness was significantly different among different varieties and among different days after pollination.

Pericarp thickness is an important quality trait of sweet corn,which decides seed tenderness directly.
