For a long time past who is the constructor when constructs cannot determine regarding with South Huangyuan county old city in Qinghai province,some scholars thinks South Huangyuan county old city was constructed by Mongolian Heshuo crown prince Luobuzangdanjin and his sister Abao in Qing Dynasty.
长期以来,史学界对青海省湟源县南古城系何人何时修筑一直不能确定,一般依据《丹噶尔厅志》所记"父老相传"之语,疑为该城系清代青海蒙古和硕亲王罗卜藏丹津与其妹阿宝所筑。

地处青藏公路３５公里至９０公里处。汽车越桥进入湟源县境内，便在一条长达５５公里(至日月山)的峡谷中穿行。这里山高水长、坡陡崖峭，地势险要，自古有“海藏咽喉”之称。峡谷两侧，群山崔嵬，蜂峦兀立，高山相峙，峭壁千仞，真有“一夫当关、万夫莫开”之势。绵延的群山上，林海漫漫，万木坤跺。 湟源县地处海藏通衢和青海省农牧区之交界处。昔日的旧县城，曾是茶马互市和日用杂货的聚散地，对沟通西藏和内地联系，增强汉、藏、回、蒙古族的关系和繁荣农牧业经济，起过重要作用。清嘉庆、道光时期，是贸易最繁盛的时期，商贾云集，洋货毕至，驼铃阵阵，耗牛声声，极为热闹，被誉为青海高原的“小北京”。
