| 桃金娘科 Myrtaceae 双子叶植物纲蔷薇亚纲的一科。常绿木本，叶多为对生，具透明腺点。花两性，萼管与子房合生，萼齿4～5，分离或连合成帽状；花瓣与萼片同数，分离或连合，或不存在，雄蕊多数，花药顶端常有油腺；子房下位，1至多室，胚珠1至多个。浆果、核果、蒴果或坚果。有100属3000种，泛热带性分布，尤以大洋洲、亚洲及美洲3个中心最盛。中国原产9属124种，另一驯化了的番石榴属，分布于南部各省。 桃金娘科植物都具有油腺和花盘，它们的花、果、叶及枝都具有油腺，含有多种挥发性精油，可提取供医药、食品、化妆品及工业的原料和香精。原产摩鹿加的丁子香的花芽是著名的香料。具浆果的种类如原产南美的番石榴及原产亚洲热带的蒲桃、洋蒲桃、桃金娘含有大量的维生素C，可供食用及制果酱。该科的木材，特别是桉树的木材，是澳大利亚重要商用木材。该科分为两个亚科，即薄子亚科和香桃木亚科。
