描述SansevieriaThunb.虎尾兰属，龙舌兰科，约60种，分布于非洲和亚洲，我国引入栽培的有虎尾兰S.trifasciataPrain和其变种金边虎尾兰var.laurentiiN.E.Br.及羊角S.canaliculataCarr.等数种，前种的叶剑形，中部以下成一具槽的柄，有淡绿色的横纹，其变种的叶边黄色，后种的叶圆柱形，有棱6条。这些植物除供观赏外，叶内的纤维可编绳。多年生草本，有根茎；叶基生，直立，扁平或圆柱状，常有绿色的横带，花葶纤细，约与叶等长；花排成总状花序或穗状花序；花被管状，裂片6，狭长，扩展；雄蕊6，着生于花被管的喉部；子房上位，3室，每室有胚珠1颗；果为一浆果。本属在Engler系统中置于百合科。
