农业企业(agrieultural enterprise)以经营农业为主或为农业生产服务的实行独立核算的生产经营单位。 产生与发展在农业生产力发展到一定阶段，农村自然经济逐步向商品经济转化，产生了初期的资本主义农业企业。城市工商业资本大量进入农村以后，资本主义农业企业才普遍发展并趋于完善。在欧洲的封建社会末期，英、法等国出现了资本主义农场。这是资本主义农业企业早期的一种组织形式。资本主义农场的特征是雇佣农业工人，从事商品性农产品的生产，以获取利润。其土地来源，有的购自农民，有的从地主手里租入进行经营。产业革命以后，在资本主义发达的农村中产生的公司农场，是由垄断资本家经营的一种大规模农业企业，大多是资本家招募廉价劳动力开垦荒地，投资建立，如在经营落后地区建立的各种垦殖场或农垦公司即属于此种类型。有的是兼并农民土地，由小农场组合而成。 在农业资本主义化过程中，一部分富裕农民和地主，通过出租土地或剥削雇佣劳动的方式，转化为农业资本家，经营资本主义农业企业。还有大量农民经营自有的家庭农场。这种农场的数量相当多，规模比较小。在商品化程度逐步提高到一定程度以后，形成另一种类型的个体农民经营的农业企业。 随着商品经济的发展，农业企业的专业化和社会化程度逐步提高，行业之间和地区之间的往来日益频繁，经济关系日趋密切。各个地区、各种行业的农业企业相互联合，形成各种形式的联合企业。同行业的联合，构成专业性联合企业;不同部门、不同行业的联合，构成综合性联合企业。其中规模大的发展成为国际间的垄断组织，如美国的联合食品公司，即以国外为农产品生产基地，生产香蕉、肉类和其他食品，下设子公司数十家，指导各个农场进行生产经营活动;各场形同整个公司的一个车间，农业企业已经变成一种特殊的组织形式。 社会主义农业企业一般从两个途径建成，一条途径是在封建地主庄园或资本主义农业企业的基础上建立国营农场，在土地资源丰富的国家，通常由国家投资开垦荒地建立一些新型的现代化国营农场，均属于全民所有制的农业企业;另一条途径是对个体农民经济通过农业合作化的道路进行社会主义改造，建立社会主义集体所有制的合作经济组织，如集体农庄、农业生产合作社，以及各种形式的经济联合组织。随着商品经济的发展和农业专业化程度的提高，这种联合企业日益广泛。
