太鹤山位于县城北面，因古时白鹤栖息而得名。相传道士叶法善在此炼丹得道，跨鹤升天而去，故又名"试剑石"、"丹山"，为道教胜地三十洞天。
这里古松奇石，景色幽雅。谢桥春晚、丹山溅玉、仙乡问鹤、环翠孕秀、抚松听涛、滴露点易、混元试剑、望江舒啸等八景各具风采。主景混元峰--试剑石一分为四，宛如剑劈一般，相传叶法善丹成试剑劈石而成，甚为奇异。
另外，太鹤山有历代和当代名人，如刘径、郑奎光、王崇铭、陈慕华沙孟海、粟裕、傅杰、张爱萍等摩崖碑刻34处，文化内涵丰厚，是一处闻名遐迩的文化教育公园。青田因在太鹤山下而得名鹤城镇，是全县旅游接待中心。县城周边还有塔山、昆山、石郭坑、西门乐洞等许多景点。
