鳞翅目的1科。白昼活动,停歇时后足上举，常有鲜明色斑的小型蛾类。本科昆虫通称举肢蛾。成虫静止时后足向上高举,竖立在身体两侧,因此得名。又因成虫喜在有阳光的叶面上作旋转动作,英美称之为太阳蛾,日本称之为舞小蛾。世界已知约70属近400种。头部光滑,眼小,触角线状与翅接近等长。下唇须由小到中等,有时下垂或细长,光滑,末端尖而向上曲。下颚须退化。翅狭长而尖,披针形或线形,翅脉常退化。后足胫节和跗节有呈环状的刺（见图）。
幼虫食植性或捕食性。食植性种类常蛀果或潜叶，如核桃举肢蛾蛀入果内为害，使受害部位变黑，俗称核桃黑。柿子举肢蛾幼虫以果蒂部分侵食果心，形成落果，俗称柿蒂虫、柿实蛾。捕食性种类以粉虱、软体介壳虫、蚜虫以及蜘蛛卵等为食。
