昆虫纲同翅目(Homoptera)蚜科(Aphididae)。甘蔗害虫。雌成虫分有翅、无翅两型。有翅成虫体长约 2.5毫米,暗黑色。翅透明。无翅成虫体长约2～2.5毫米,黄褐或暗绿色，被有多量白色絮状蜡质物。分布于澳大利亚、印度、东南亚、日本，以及中国的华东、华南、西南和台湾等地区。成虫和若虫吸食甘蔗汁液，使蔗株生长阻滞,糖分降低,品质变劣。在华南年发生约20代。 8～10月盛发，11月为害仍甚严重。一年中有两次迁飞扩散盛期,第1次4～6月，由越冬场所向大田迁飞扩散，第2次10～12月,成长蔗上蚜群中有翅成虫向秋植蔗等越冬场所迁飞。无翅成虫繁殖力强。蔗田棉蚜一般于3～5月始发，冬季无休眠现象。全年以孤雌胎生方式繁殖。气温20～25℃时，10多天即可完成一代。若虫和成虫都群集在叶背主脉两侧及叶鞘内侧为害，状如白絮，使叶色变黄。绵蚜分泌的蜜露，还能引起煤病，影响光合作用。降雨对虫的发生不利。不同甘蔗品种的受害程度也有差异。
防治甘蔗绵蚜的措施包括保护和利用天敌如十三星瓢虫、十斑大瓢虫、双带盘瓢虫和黄斑盘瓢虫；喷洒乐果、敌百虫、敌敌畏等农药；用乐果涂茎;合理灌溉,水旱轮作等。
