常绿乔木，高28m,胸径达1.3m。树皮灰褐色或暗褐色，纵裂并呈片状剥落。小枝黄色。球果圆柱形，直立，成熟时淡绿色或淡黄绿色。中国古老的特有种。分布于广西，湖南、贵州、生于海拔200-1100m处的石灰岩山坡下部。国家三级保护渐危种。
