飞虱科昆虫中的 1种。是中国中、南部稻区的主要害虫之一。
成虫后足胫节末端有1个能动的大距;体连翅长4毫米左右,全身褐色,后足胫距生有缘齿30~36个。褐飞虱产卵于稻茎叶鞘内,若虫和成虫在茎杆上取食,由于它是刺吸口器,水稻被刺吸汁液后,轻则影响水稻生长发育,重者叶片发黄、整株干枯倒伏,稻茎下部变黑发臭。此虫在中国中部地区一年发生4~5代,南部8~11代,繁殖迅速,生殖量大,是水稻的大害虫。褐飞虱有趋光性,在灯光下常可见到,不耐低温,仅可在南方过冬,其他地区每年由南方飞迁而来。
