导弹核武器打击的幅员较大的陆地或水域目标。其半径(最大长度的一半)与核弹毁伤半径之比超过1/5者,即是面目标。另外,对分散在一定范围内的数个点目标,也可视为面目标,如大工业区、交通枢纽与军事基地。在面目标中,有时将长宽之比超过2者划分出来并视为线目标。面目标通常是多种对象的混合体,但常以其中某一有代表性的对象(如工业区的厂房)来判定毁伤效果。面目标在遭受导弹核武器打击时,除了生存或全部被毁两种状态外,还有各种不同程度的部分毁伤状态。因此,毁伤效果需用平均数指标(如平均毁伤面积)或达到某一毁伤要求(如毁伤面积不少于40%)的概率来判定。面目标毁伤效果的计算公式一般比较复杂。通常可将面目标划分成若干点目标来近似计算,或用随机数模拟爆炸点来统计模拟。提高导弹的命中精度,能大大提高对面目标的可靠毁伤效果;但在精度提高到一定程度之后,毁伤效果即达到一定的极限,如需进一步提高毁伤效果,就得增加弹头数量或增大弹头当量。
