由沙伊德格(a.e. scheidegger)提出的对地表形态认识的一条基本原理。认为:确定性的、非随机性的地表趋势,是由地质构造作用决定的;非确定性的、随机性的地表变异,是由外来力作用决定的。说明地表形态的现实表现,正是一组对抗力作用的瞬间平衡。内力作用过程赋于一种系统的、非任意的性质;外力作用过程则导致出一种随机性质的效应。沙伊德格由该原理出发,设计了一种量化的方式,以确定地表形态的确定性因素与随机性因素,帮助进行有物理意义基础的统计分析。
