飞行甲板就是航母舰面上供舰载机起降和停放的上层甲板,又称为舰面场。早期飞机由于起降速度不大,可以从军舰首部或主炮塔上部铺设的小型甲板上起飞,从舰尾的短小甲板上着舰。但现代航母都是贯通全舰的大面积的上层甲板。需要指出的是,航母的飞行甲板要比舰体宽得多。从正面看,飞行甲板从舰体上面向两舷张出,形状很怪异。
飞行甲板要承受飞机着舰时的强烈冲击载荷,所以要用高强度钢板制成。二战时航母飞行甲板表面要铺设一层木质甲板,而现代航母的飞行甲板表面都是金属的了。
