固醇类中最主要者,其一部分来自食物,另一部分来自人体组织代谢和衍化而成。血浆胆固醇仅1/3左右呈游离状态,余2/3则与长链脂肪酸结合成脂,肝为其重要的合成、储存及排出代谢器官。正常小儿血浆含量较低,随年龄增长而增高,正常值3.36~5.69mmol/L。高于5.69mmol/L即为高胆固醇血症,见于代谢性疾病、胆道长期梗阻、肾病综合征、淀粉样变性疾病、牛皮癣及应用大量肾上腺皮质激素治疗后等。
