由锥蜗杆和锥蜗轮组成的蜗杆传动。两轴的交错角通常为90°。锥蜗杆是一个等导程的锥螺旋。锥蜗轮与锥蜗杆配对﹐其外形类似曲线齿圆锥齿轮的蜗轮。锥蜗杆置於锥蜗轮的一侧(见图 锥蜗杆传动示意图 )。锥蜗杆传动的特点是﹕(1)同时接触的齿的对数多﹐重合度大(见齿轮传动)﹐因此传动平稳﹔(2)传动比大﹐作减速装置用时单级传动比可达10～400﹔(3)接触线和相对滑动速度之间的夹角接近90°﹐齿面间易形成润滑油膜﹐故承载能力较大﹑效率较高﹔(4)锥蜗轮能作轴向移动而脱离锥蜗杆﹐这时两轴线间的最小距离保持不变﹐故两者离合方便﹐可兼作离合器使用﹔(5)可用淬火钢代替铜合金作为蜗轮材料﹔(6)可用於增速传动﹔(7)由於不对称的原因﹐正反转时受力情况不同﹐故承载能力和效率也不同。
