一年生草本．高15—40厘米。茎不分枝或自基部有少数分枝，近四棱形，直立，绿色或常带紫色。叶无柄，狭长披针形、披针形至线形。长至43毫米，宽1.5—4毫米，枝及上部叶较小。先端急尘，基部钝，半抱茎，中脉在两面明显。花5数，顶生和腋生，直径2—3厘米，花梗直立或斜伸，四棱形，不等长，长至8厘十；花萼较花冠稍短或等长，裂片线形或线状披针形，稍不整齐，长8—22（27）毫米，先端急尖，花冠淡蓝色，具深色脉纹，裂片椭圆形披针形或椭圆形，一般长1.5-2.5厘米，先端钝或急尖，基部两侧各具1个腺窝，腺窝管形，边缘具不整齐的裂片状流苏；花丝线形。长6一8毫米，花药蓝色，狭矩圆形，长3一4.5毫米；子房工柄，长12—14毫米，柱头小，二角形，下延至子房下部。蒴果狭椭圆形或倒披针状椭圆形，与花冠等长或稍长；种于淡褐色，圆球形，直径0.3—0.4毫米，光滑。染色体2n=10。花果期8一9月。
产我国西南、西北、华北、东北等地区。生于水沟边、山坡草地，海拔1400一4200米。俄罗斯（模式标本产地）、日本也有分布。
