德国科学家最近开发出一种新型环保防火塑料，不仅克服了传统防火塑料的诸多缺点，而且生产简便，并且阻燃效果更佳。
传统使用的防火塑料具有许多缺点，如添加的防火剂容易挥发出对身体有害的物质、时间一长容易失效，以及容易腐蚀塑料破坏其机械与绝缘性能等。而德国弗劳恩霍夫学会应用聚合物研究所的科学家们将防火剂包裹在以密胺树脂制成的小球中，然后将这些小球在塑料生产的过程中添加进去，这样制成的新型防火塑料可以有效克服传统防火塑料的上述缺点。科学家们解释说，密胺树脂通常情况下不会融化，只有在遇火的情况下才会释放出防火剂，从而达到阻燃的效果。
据介绍，这些小球的直径大约为三至三十微米（一微米为百万分之一米），内部约为五十个大气压，状态稳定，而且可以在现有的塑料生产工艺中直接添加进去，不用改造生产设备。
此外，科学家们还介绍说，甚至可以将氮、二氧化碳等物质包裹在小球内，从而达到更佳的阻燃效果。
