采用人工心肺机和变温器体外循环进行全身降温，适宜心内直视术和大血管手术。根据不同的手术，降温程度也不相同。体外循环下降温幅度容易控制，降温速度快，自37℃降至30℃只需数分钟，且复温也方便。由于全身深低温对机体生理干扰大，目前都主张应用体外循环降温至30℃。经主动脉灌注冷停跳液(0～4℃)，局部心肌温度可下降达15℃以下，心脏血循环阻断时间可延长至1h或更长。全身深低温适用于婴幼儿复杂的先天性心脏病手术，并取得良好的效果。
