岑河镇是一个古老的小镇,好象原来是个庙,后来成镇的.
解放后，岑河镇属于江陵县管辖,至94年荆州与沙市合并,起先归属与江陵区,为九大镇之一。
1998年江陵区改为江陵县，辖7个镇（资市、滩桥、熊河、白马寺、沙岗、普济、郝穴）、2个乡（马家寨、秦市），改岑河为沙市区管辖。
