释慧简。不知何许人。梁初在道。戒业弘峻殊奇胆勇。荆州厅事东。先有三间别斋。由来屡多鬼怪。时王建武临治。犹无有能住者。惟简是王君门师。专任居之。自住一间。余安经像。俄见一人黑衣无目。从壁中出便倚简门上。时简目开心了。但口不得语。意念观世音。良久鬼曰。承君精进故来相试。今神色不动。岂复逼耶。欻然还入壁中。简徐起澡漱礼诵讫。还如常眠。寐梦向人曰。仆以汉末居此数百年。为性刚直多所不堪。君诚净行好人。特相容耳。于此遂绝。简住积载。安隐如初。若经他行犹无有人能住之者。
