云岩山山不很深，南距保山市不过十六七公里，却古木参天，浓荫匝地，“藏”了座国内外都有名的前年古刹：卧佛寺。 卧佛寺始建年代过去一般认为是在大唐开元四年（公元716年），而今又有地方史研究者从《永昌府志》里找出了四个字：“建于汉室”。信史定论，言之凿凿，这就将其“寺龄”至少前推了五百余年。 卧佛寺大殿非寻常之殿，乃是依一天然石洞所建，洞殿浑然一体，极其巧妙。外洞有一长达6米的白玉卧佛，为中国最大的玉卧佛，洞中还塑有五百罗汉等佛像，雕塑艺术精湛，令人惊叹。
