中国版本类型。由作者自己出资或主持刻印的书本。从出资的角度看，与家刻本性质近似；从所刻书的作者看，则与家刻本绝然不同。自刻本始自五代和凝。《旧五代史·和凝传》说他平生为文章，长于短歌艳曲，尤好声誉。有集百卷, 自篆于版，模印数百帙，分惠于人。五代以后， 历代都有自刻本行世。 自刻本有两种形式：①作者出资委托书坊或召雇雕印工匠, 按照自己的意愿，设计版式行款刻印；②不但自己出资，还要自己写样上版，然后委托书坊或召雇工匠刻印。自刻本一般都校勘精审、刻印精良。若是作者自己手写上版, 就更为珍贵。如清代郑板桥，号称诗、书、画三绝，他自己写样上版雕印的自著集，便被视为珍品。
