温度高于绝对零度的物体内的带电粒子振动或转动时向空间辐射出电磁波，而另一物体接受到电磁波，并把它转变为热能，这样就形成了辐射传热。
温度为T、表面积为A的物体在单位时间内的辐射的热量q=σεAT4，其中ε为发射率，与物体的材料和它的表面状况有关，σ是斯特藩-玻尔兹曼常数，σ=56.7×10-9W·m-2·K-4。
当一面积为A1、温度为T1的物体被另一温度为T2的物体包围时，两物体之间的辐射传热为q=σA1F1-2·(T24-T14)。
