水网稻田地区的河流、沟渠纵横，湖泊、池塘较多，稻田泥泞，地下水位高。在水网稻田地进行战斗，队形易被割裂，车辆机动困难，不易构筑工事；但便于实施水上机动，利于凭借江河、湖泊、沟渠等天然障碍组织防御。部队在水网稻田地进攻时，要做好连续克服水障和泥泞地的准备，充分利用各种渡河器材和两栖作战工具，采用水上机动，实施迂回包围、穿插分割，各个歼敌。防御时，要充分利用水障设防，集中兵力扼守水路和陆路交通要冲，制止敌人沿水路实施穿插分割，并采取反空降措施,保证防御的稳定性。无论进攻或防御,都要加强对核、化学武器袭击的防护。
