曹谐和,法名广智,字声五,江南上元人,业染绛于苏,家焉。道光七年秋,延夏文荣视其妻病,文荣教以净土法门,从之。既而疑焉,谓文荣曰,人说君以念佛诳人,何故。文荣曰,诱人以惑业,受苦果,轮转三途,是流落他乡也,谓之诳可。劝人以戒定慧,往生极乐,究竟菩提,乃劝人归家也,何诳焉。谐和言下有省,问如何可以归家。曰,持戒为基,作福为助,执持名号,到一心不乱,是归家消息也。遂欣跃而去。既归依杯渡海公。明春,受五戒于灵鹫义公。一夕,忽梦黑山在前,欲上,而溪水隔之,有红日西沈之象,遂醒。悟尘缘将尽,功益进。家资三千金,不数年而布施罄矣。十四年四月,以资罄辍业归。先是谐和劝母修净业,母以其无子,命之纳妾,谓母曰,愿母同生净土足矣,五浊多造业事,嗣续可不计也。既而奉母还乡,未几,其母念佛而逝。是年六月,谐和示疾,越六日,亦念佛安坐而逝。其女见之,发深信心,念佛四十九日,吉祥坐脱。(西归见闻录)评曰,百日之内,亡其三人,在世俗岂无物议。而一门眷属,同托莲胎,实堪庆幸。此诚可为知者道。
