This paper introduces general condition of equipments and Its main problems existed of hump shunting yard of Harbin Marshalling station and imagine of the project on technical Transformation for the equipments of hump shunting yard is put forward.

The modernization for small capacity hump should be put on the agenda, which inclutes the modernization of route controlling of hump,speed control of running wagons, optimization of plane vertical section of shunting yards, and modernization of operation at the tail of hump, management,among them choice and optimization of speed control system is key point for small hump modernization.
