| 客船 passenger ship 用于载运旅客和行李以及邮件的运输船舶，通常还兼运一些货物。有完善的上层建筑，用以布置各种类别的客舱及一些服务舱室；对救生、防火、抗沉等安全要求严格；有较高的舒适性，具有良好的隔声、避震性能；有较高的航速和功率储备。客船通常航线固定、航班定期。由于航空运输的发展，海上客船已转向沿海和近海短程运输，并多从事旅游业务，而内陆水域的客船仍是许多国家的一种重要的客运工具。客船分为5种类型：①海洋客船。包括远洋和沿海客船。远洋客船原多兼运邮件，故又称邮船。大型远洋客船已于20世纪70年代停止建造。②旅游船。供游览用，其服务设施与娱乐设施十分发达，现代旅游船已向豪华型发展。③汽车客船和滚装客货船。汽车客船用于运输旅客及其自备汽车。滚装客货船是在集装箱运输和汽车客船大型化的基础上发展的高效、新型客货船，多用于沿海中程定期航线。④小型高速客船。其中包括水翼船和气垫船，具有速度快、适航性好的特点，多用于短途运输。⑤内河客船。航行于江、河、湖等内陆水域上，载客量大且停靠频繁。
