定子内腔和转子外形都呈锥形的电动机。它具有停电自制动的能力,广泛应用于电动葫芦、卷扬机等起重设备。
锥形转子电动机的制动装置由套在电机转子上的制动弹簧、风扇制动轮和端盖上的制动环组成。电动机运行时,锥形转子电动机的气隙磁场产生轴向磁拉力,压缩制动弹簧,使风扇制动轮与电机端盖上的制动环脱开,电机能自由转动。断电时,轴向磁拉力消失,转子在制动弹簧的推力下产生轴向移动,使风扇制动轮压紧制动环,产生摩擦力,迫使电机迅速停转并绑住转子,以防止起吊的重物下落,保障安全。
