微光探测器的一种,又名像管,由安装在高真空管壳内的光电阴极、电子透镜(有静电聚焦和磁聚焦两种)和荧光屏三部分组成。它的工作原理是将投射在光阴极上的光学图像转变成电子像,电子透镜将电子像聚焦并加速投射到荧光屏上产生增强的像,然后用照相方法记录下来。单级像增强器亮度增益为 50~100倍。几个单级管串接成的多级像增强器,亮度增益可达几千倍至几十万倍。用五级像增强器拍摄昴星团的照片表明,曝光时间为普通照相法的千分之一。单级像管图像分辨率,一般为每毫米80~100线对,多级像管则为每毫米20~50线对。由于普通照相底片在红外光谱区灵敏度极低,采用具有对红外光敏感的光电阴极的像管,可获得巨大增益。
