提起海啸，人们无不为之胆战心惊、毛骨悚然。自然界中，海啸是由风暴和地震所引起的。据有关材料记载，1965年夏天，美国在比基尼岛上进行的核试验激发了军事科学家们研制海啸武器的浓厚兴趣。那次核爆炸中，在距爆炸中心500米的海域突然掀起60米高的海浪，海浪在离开爆炸中心1500米之后，高度仍在15米以上。这一试验表明，未来的海啸武器如运用于海战，将会起到不可估量的作用。
