由多股纱或线拈合而成,直径较粗。两股以上的绳复拈后称索,直径更粗的称缆。按原料分有棉绳、麻绳、丝绳,以及锦纶、丙纶、维纶等化学纤维绳。按结构可分为编织、拧绞、编绞等三类。编织绳手感柔软,是由若干根纱线作芯线(或无芯线)外面有4组、8组、12组,直至160组纱线以"8"字形轨道编织成一层或多层。降落伞绳、救生索、攀登绳、旗杆绳、拉灯绳、包扎绳等都属编织绳,直径在 0.5~100毫米之间。拧绞绳由3股、4股或多股纱线加拈而成,加工方便,产量较编织、编绞绳高,但在使用时易扭结。直径在 4~50毫米之间(见缆绳)。一般用于船舶拖带、矿山起重、装卸和民用等方面。编绞绳由8根拧绞绳分 4组以"8"字形轨道交叉编绞而成,强度高,耐磨性好,延伸率小,使用时不易回转扭结,手感柔软,操作完全方便,主要用于高吨位船舶带绳。随着生产发展的需要编绞绳已从 8股增加到16股、24股,有圆形和方形,直径在3~120毫米之间。
