高山苔原景观带又称高山冻原景观带，海拔2100米至山顶，长白山火山锥体的中上部，是长白山植物分布海拔最高最寒冷的地带。很多植物是第四纪冰川后遗留下来的极地植物。
高山苔原景观带气候恶劣，土壤瘠薄，植物群落结构简单，层次单调，仅有矮小灌木、多年生的草本植物、地衣和苔藓交织生长，形成广阔的地毯式苔原植被。这种生态环境与极地相似，为欧亚大陆东部独有的高山苔原景观带。
高山苔原景观带植物植株低矮，呈矮曲状，匍匐生长，但根系、根茎发达，适应强风吹袭和高山强日光照射，生长期较短，花期集中，植物花朵大，色彩艳丽。六、七月份苔原上百花盛开，争芳吐艳，宛若美丽的天然花园。这里也是开展高山滑翔的佳处。
