古三桥址河位于运司河东侧，为清湖河的一段。北接浣纱河，与来自涌金水门相合，顺今定安路而南，折东沿今惠民路至后市街；再东，以暗渠通小河。宋时河至庆余桥（约在今提督弄西段）止，故名断河头。至清代，因康熙帝南巡来杭，遂开通断河头引水南下，沿今惠民路至后市街，以便出行宫（今浙江省商业总公司所在处）即能登御舟游西湖。
