An improved engineering method, named cell-zone method, is developed to predict the smoke movement in a long-narrow confined space with using CFAST 6.

55 kW、110 kW fire tests in a ISO room were simulated in field model (FDS) and zone model CFAST.

The zone model could still be used to simulate the smoke movement in large spaces.

Then experimental fires were simulated with a CFD package based on a modified set of Navier-Stokes equations for thermally driven buoyant flow and Large Eddy Simulation(LES) while also using a two-layer zone model.

The construction of fire zone modeling involves two crucial steps:: establishing mathematical model for every phenomenon existing in course of a fire, and calculating some fire parameters such as compartment pressure,temperature, and height of smoke layer by solving equations.

Among the method of fire numerical simulation,zone modeling has some advantages,for example,it needs less support of computer hardware and its computing result consists with the experiment result well.
